Floral studies in oil

In the spring of 2018, although (or perhaps because) the UK was hit by the ‘Beast from the East’ – the cold wave that carried freezing wind and heavy snowfall to the United Kingdom and Ireland – Studio Llewellyn willed the new spring season into being by obsessively painting small-scale oil paint studies of flowers.

Named “Dainty”, “Laughing”, “Hope” and “New Growth”, the four canvas board pieces were the artist’s tribute to seasonal symbolism. Still experimenting with the application of paint, the artist challenged herself to focus on the interplay between texture and movement, while continuing to develop the impressionistic approach to subjects that is characteristic of Studio Llewellyn’s work.
